Background:  MUC13 is a mucin. These are secreted or transmembrane glycoproteins that are expressed mainly in the digestive tract and on epithelial surfaces. MUC13 is upregulated in gastric cancer. Mucins have also been implicated in inflammatory bowel diseases.
