Background: ENTPD5 is one of eight known eNTPDases (ecto-nucleoside triphosphate diphosphohydrolases) that control extracellular nucleotide levels thereby regulating purinergically controlled physiological processes. ENTPD5 promotes reglycosylation reactions involved in glycoproteins folding and quality control in the endoplasmic reticulum. It also hydrolyzes UDP, GDP and IDP but not any other nucleoside di-, mono- or triphosphates, nor thiamine pyrophosphate. ENTPD5 is expressed in adult liver, kidney, prostate, testis and colon.
