Background: RNF6 (Ring finger protein 6) contains a RING-H2 finger motif. It is a ubiquitin ligase which binds to, polyubiquitinates, and targets LIMK1 for proteasomal degradation in growth cones of primary hippocampal neurons. Deletions and mutations in RNF6 were detected in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), suggesting that this protein may be a potential tumor suppressor.
